You have been waiting four long years for Fu-Mei to come back and it is finally here! This wine is limited production and is a wine club only wine.

Fu-Mei, named after original owner Dave Chen's mother, means rich and beautiful in Chinese. This wine, true to its name, is ever a charmer, filled with surprises, wonder, and complexity that delights the palate at every level. Lively, juicy, and round in just the right places on the palate, it takes up the perfect amount of space as it dances through the room. Notes of dragon fruit, pineapple, and papaya are given a lift from a spicy, almost peppery counter note. Tannin is quiet but present throughout, making this a delightful experience as it goes from chilled to room temperature.

It's back and with limited remaining, the 2015 Estate is a true show-stopper. The nose is abundant and lively with red and purple fruit, a bit of classic oak spice and earth, and cola. The first sip is juicy and bright, with complexity developing into a layered, and lovely palate. The balance between fine tannin, fruit, acidity and quiet power is compelling. Even, nuanced, and yet surprisingly forward, this is a wine that will suit both the impatient and the thrifty.

The nose here is brilliantly red fruited, with layer upon layer of subtle spice, bright floral notes, herbs, and stone. Its not all poetry and pageantry, though, and my first impression of the wine was simply, “oh that’s goooood.” A fair assessment, and sometimes that it all one requires. Further tastes show fine tannin throughout, a juicy, vibrant mouthfeel that is very likeable, and deft, long-developing layers of fruit that reveal themselves severally. I really loved this wine at cellar temperature.

Ah, 10 Acre. The Chambolle-Musigny of the West. Always the most graceful expression of Patton Valley, with wild red fruit on the nose like Rainier cherry, and Hood strawberries (the taste of the mountains!), and fresh pine. The palate is fine layers of fruit, dusty tannin, nervy acidity, and fresh herbs throughout, lingering for an age. Easily, will steadily improve for the next decade.

The 2017 West Block plays exactly to type. Our more muscular and brooding vineyard expression (think Tom Hardy as Hamlet), this version has a nose replete with purple fruit, autumn spices, and dried flowers, with a vein of sandalwood or something exotic. The palate is firm with tannin, but also nimble enough to hit a backhand on the run. Layered, and textured, one will find nuance to explore for an easy 12 years.
